Slot Machine Glossary
The following guide explain some of the more common slot machine terms used
at an online casino
Feature Game
A combination of certain symbols that trigger a second or third feature game. This will often
take the player into a second screen and offer high cash prizes. Common feature games include
a scratchcard style game, pick 3 images from 6 or a race
Free Games
Some feature games simply offer a series of free spins for the player. This can often be up too 30 free spins.
In some online slots, any wins gained during this period are multiplied.
Re-spin
Slot Machines can offer a re-spin symbol. If this appears, the slot goes through a 're-spin'
offering the player a second chance of winning
Bonus or Trigger Symbols
Bonus symbols often act as a trigger to take the player into second screen feature games.
Substitute or Wild Symbol
Substitutes or Wilds can substitute for any other symbol appearing in the game
Multipliers
Some symbols - often Wild Symbols - will have a multiplier attached and the payout win will multiply according the the amount
specified. For Example; a x3 multiplier will multiply the cash win by 3
Scatter Symbol
A scatter symbol will pay anywhere irrespective of paylines. They can appear anywhere on a payline or in the
slot window to win
Pay Direction:
Pays Left-to Right; Pays Right-to-Left; Pays Both; Pays Any
These are terms to tell the player in which direction the payline will will payout. For example, in
a standard slot machine, the winning payline will payout starting from the Left. Each symbol
must appear in sequence in order to win.
For example, 3 fish symbols - in order to win - should appear sequentially on reel 1, reel 2 and reel 3 to win on a left-to-right pay direction.
However, some lots now offer right-to-left payout wins, or even both l-to-r and r-to-l.
Pays Any often refers to a scatter symbol in which the symbol does not have
to appear sequentially in a payline or sometimes can appear anywhere in the window for a win
Max Bet
The maximum stake and line bet available on the slot game
Payout Table
The graphical table that shows the player the different symbol sequences required for a payline win
Double-Up or Gamble
Offering the player the ability to double-up any win. Usually a 50:50 chance
