Pai Gow Poker
Like all casino poker games, Pai Gow Poker is played against the dealer.
The aim of Pai Gow Poker is to beat the dealer with the 2 hands you're dealt - the high and the
low hands in accordance with basic poker rankings. Pai Gow Poker uses a 53-card deck
including the joker. The joker is not wild - it can only be used as an Ace or to complete
a straight, flush, straight flush or royal flush.
The game begins by placing a bet on the table. The dealer deals 7 cards face-up to the player and 7 cards
for the dealer, face down. At this point, you need to re-arrange your cards into 2 hands - a 5-card hand (high hand)
and a 2-card hand (low hand). Standard poker rankings are used - except that in Pai Gow Poker,
the highest 5-card hand is 5 aces (4 aces + the joker) and A,2,3,4,5 is the
second highest rank. The highest 2-card hand is 2 aces and the lowest is 2,3. The player
must put the highest ranking hand as part of the 5-card high hand. The dealer then
shows his cards and re-arranges them according to a fixed 'house way'
Both hands are then compared to the dealers high and low hand. In order to win, your high and
low hand must both rank higher than the dealer's hands. If one hand is higher than the dealer in rank,
and the other is lower or equal, its a tie and your bet is returned. If both are lower, you lose.
If both hands exactly match, the dealer also wins.
