UK Gaming Industry
There are currently 126 land-based casinos in the UK, turning over £3.5 billion (2001-2).
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport is responsible for
the laws that regulate gambling in the UK. In order to be granted a license,
the casino operator must apply through the UK Gaming Board and only in certain

DCMS
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
regulates all gaming law in the UK. The Gaming Act was written back in 1968 and over the last
few years its been deemed necessary to modernise the laws in order to keep pace with
changes in technology and public expectations.
In 2001, the DCMS commissioned a
Gambling Review to be presented
by Sir Alan Budd and responded to it
in March 2002 with

Gaming Board of Great Britain
In order to apply for a casino license, operators must first receive a
Certificate of Consent from the
Gambing Board of Great Britain. This is the regulatory body for all UK casinos, bingo clubs, local authority lotteries,
and gaming machines. The Gaming Board ensures all licensees are 'fit and proper', that all gaming
is run in accordance with the law and advises the government on recent developments to aid any changes
in the law.
